Shanghai is undoubtedly the most dynamic and exciting city in the world’s fastest changing nation. Once the decadent playground of foreign adventure-seekers, Shanghai has once again emerged as an exhilarating and world-class city.
Cosmopolitan without losing its sense of history, this booming metropolis is the showpiece of the fast-paced Chinese economy, where temples and local markets are nestled between towering monuments to capitalism, and tree-lined European avenues from the colonial past lead to contemporary shopping malls with the latest brands and charming local designer's boutiques.
Walk through Shanghai’s past with a visit to the Yuyuan Gardens, walk the Old town, explore the Huangpu river by cruise and get an overview of Shanghai’s future at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Exploring Shanghai brings together the past, present, and future in a city that never rests.
Insider Eperences & Highlights:
Meet your driver at the lobby of your hotel in Beijing city Centre and be transferred to Beijing airport to take your flight to Shanghai. When you arrive at Shanghai airport, you will meet your guide at the arrivals hall holding a board with your name. Then you will be ready to start this exciting tour in Shanghai.
First you will visit Yuyuan Gardens, which used to be a wealthy Chinese family’s traditional private garden in the Ming & Qing Dynasties over 400 years ago. The name of the garden can be translated as the Garden of Happiness from Shanghainese, and is the city’s most famous traditional garden.
After exploring the Yuyuan Garden, you will spend some time wandering through the markets and bazaars of Shanghai’s Old Town. This is the perfect opportunity to get souvenir shopping done while soaking up the atmosphere of old Shanghai.
Then we will bring you to board your Huangpu River Cruise. The cruise offers an extraordinary view of the Bund and its promenade, which are landmarks of Shanghai’s 9th century struggle to reclaim a waterfront from the blogs of this river, which originates in nearby Tai Lake.
After your cruise, you will have a traditional noodle dish for lunch, followed by a walk along the wide boulevard of the Bund, lined with impressive neo-classical buildings, dating back to Shanghai’s grandest days.
Lastly, you will visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, where you can get a vision of Shanghai’s exciting future and see a scale model of the inner city including the World Expo site and further developments that have been planned up to 2020. The whole five floors hall will take you on a journey from Colonial Shanghai, and explain the ambitious plans of Shanghai's urban planners.
You will then be transferred to the Shanghai airport to take the flight back to Beijing. A driver will pick you up at the arrivals hall of the airport holding a board with your name and you will be transferred to your hotel in Beijing city center.
What to pack? What's the weather like?
Shanghai weather is generally mild and moist, with four distinct seasons - a pleasant warm spring, an even warmer rainy summer, a comfortable cool autumn and an overcast brisk winter. The region's location at the estuary of the Yangtze River to the East China Sea makes it wet such that it rains for about one third of the year.
The hottest time here comes in July and August, with more than 10 days at temperatures around 35 C (95 F). The coldest time is from the late January to early February. The spring from March to May is very pleasant and a light coat serves you well by early evening.
