Itinerary

Note: The start and end times will vary depending on traffic and road conditions

Day 1: Longsheng rice terraces and Reed Flute Cave (L)

Morning drive to Longji Terraces, also known as Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces, located in Longsheng County about 2 hours away from Guilin. The rice terraces are built over the hillsides. The terraces look like great chains or ribbons as they wind from the foot to the top of the hill. This ingenious construction makes best use of the scarce arable land and water resources in the mountainous area.

On the way back to Guilin city you will have the chance to visit the Reed Flute Cave, a brilliant cave marked on almost all travel itineraries. The cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside of it which people make flutes out of. Inside this water-eroded cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations created by carbonate deposition. Illuminated by colored lighting, the fantastic spectacle is found in many variations along this 240-meter-long cave.

Meals included: Traditional Chinese cuisine lunch

Accommodation: On your own in Guilin (downtown area)

Day 2: Lijiang River Cruise and Yangshuo (L)

Take the morning Li River Cruise upstream to enjoy the scenery and beautiful surroundings. A cruise along the Li River between Guilin and Yangshuo is a truly unforgettable experience. As you take in the stunning scenery there’s something interesting to see at almost every bend in the river. Many of the karst formations are, with a little imagination, reminiscent of animals and objects, with names such as Elephant Trunk Hill, Sword Cut Cliff, Reclining Flower Vase Hill and many more. Between these spectacular limestone peaks you’ll see graceful bamboo groves, farmers tending rice paddies, and lumbering water buffaloes pulling carts or cooling off in the river. You may also see fishermen gliding along on their narrow bamboo rafts, and if you’re very lucky you might see one of the famous fishing cormorants.

Once in Yangshuo, you will have some time to stop at the ‘World’s Biggest Market’ to pick up some things for yourself or souvenirs for friends or family. Then your guide will take you to have a walk along the West Street. This is a tiny S-shaped street running through the street which is mainly inhabited by foreigners now, hence its name. The street itself has over 1,400 years of history, when there were only a few grocery stores on the street. Currently, it is one of the mixing pots of traditional, modern, and foreign culture.

The stroll will be followed by a visit to a local village by bike (if you don’t feel like riding a bike, our driver will drive you around the village). Finally you will be transferred back to your hotel in Guilin

Accommodation: On your own in Guilin (Pick up will be downtown area)
